Bicyclists promote cycling with ride from Waikiki to Kaneohe and back
A national program that promotes cycling as a physical and psychological therapy will add Hawaii to its long list of stops Sunday as an estimated 50 to 60 cyclists ride 62 miles from the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel to Marine Corps Base Hawaii and back in support of American veterans.
Ride 2 Recovery, a partnership between the Fitness Challenge Foundation, the U.S. military and the Veterans Administration Volunteer Service Office, raises funds to support cycling-related programs around the country that help injured veterans overcome their disabilities.
Sunday’s ride, part of Ride 2 Recovery’s ongoing "Cyclefest" series of events, begins at 9 a.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki. Riders will stop at Marine Corps Base Hawaii for lunch before returning to the hotel.
The ride is open to the public for a registration fee of $50. Pre-registration is available through www.ride2recovery.com. Walk-up registration will take place on Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Waikiki. All registered participants will receive a Ride 2 Recovery T-shirt.
