Rainbow Wahine fall in Portland

Kamilah Jackson had 18 points and 18 rebounds, but the Hawaii women’s basketball team lost to Portland 66-61 last night in Portland, Ore.

The Rainbow Wahine cut their deficit to 62-61 on a 3-pointer by Megan Tinnin with 14 seconds left in the game, but Tinnin turned the ball over on UH’s last possession and the Pilots made all of their free throws.

Tinnin finished with 18 points and Breanna Arbuckle contributed 15 for the Wahine, who fell to 4-4.

Portland improved to 6-3 and got 17 points from Tara Cronin.

Hawaii Pacific pounded in Alaska

Parrish West scored 33 points in 23 minutes and Alaska trounced Hawaii Pacific 91-77 in a men’s basketball game last night in Fairbanks, Alaska.

Adrian den Dulk led the Sea Warriors with 17 points and Nick Frazier contributed 13. Hawaii Pacific dropped to 3-3, while Alaska improved to 2-3.

 

Grove loses decision

Maui’s Kendall Grove lost a unanimous decision to Demian Maia in one of the feature fights in last night’s Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale event in Las Vegas.

Grove (12-8) continued his up-and-down trend in the UFC, suffering his fourth consecutive loss following a win.

Grove is 7-5 in 12 career UFC fights.

 

BYUH women run to 23rd at NCAAs

Lacey Krout ran 6 kilometers in 23 minutes, 16 seconds to lead Brigham Young-Hawaii with an 88th place finish at the NCAA Division II cross country national championship on a snowy course in Louisville yesterday.

Krout was followed by teammates Katherine Buxton (150th), Chanda Romney (161st), Lacee Kurtz (162nd), Amanda Wilson (166th) and Kelsey Elder (182nd). The Seasiders finished in 23rd place.

Grand Valley State won the team title and Neely Spence of Shippensburg won the individual crown with a time of 20:41.
