Celebrity Chef Tour comes to isles
KOHALA COAST » Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows next month will host the first James Beard Foundation Celebrity Chef Tour event to be held in Hawaii, featuring celebrity chefs Michael Symon and Jonathan Waxman.
Symon is the star of "Iron Chef America" and owns Lola and Lolita restaurants in Cleveland. Waxman, best-selling author and star of "Top Chef Masters" on Bravo, owns Barbuto restaurant in Manhattan.
When: 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 21, reception and wine tasting with Symon and Waxman; 6 p.m. Jan. 22, multicourse dinner with each chef preparing a different course. Chefs will answer questions about their dishes and mingle with guests.
Where: Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows, 68-1400 Mauna Lani Drive, Kohala Coast, Big Island.
Cost: $300 per person all inclusive for both events; $250 per person all inclusive for Jan. 22 chef dinner.

Celebrate Christmas at Surfrider
The Moana Surfrider is busy planning "Tis the Season" events on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Friday:
» "High Tea Class at The Veranda": Noon to 2 p.m. at The Veranda. A traditional afternoon tea with explanations of the signature teas on the menu, etiquette tips and the significance of high tea. Cost: $50 per person, reservations highly recommended.
Saturday:
» "Christmas Holiday Breakfast": 6 to 9:30 a.m. at The Veranda. Breakfast buffet. Cost: $28 for adults and $15.25 for children 12 years and under.
» "Christmas Holiday Brunch": 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Veranda. Cost: $95 for adults and $55 for children 12 years and under. Reservations highly recommended.
» "Christmas Holiday Dinner": 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Beachhouse at the Moana. Chef Rodney Uyehara will feature favorite holiday dishes. Reservations highly recommended.
