New Hawaii women’s soccer coach Michele Nagamine announced the hiring of Mike Herman as an assistant coach yesterday.

Herman, formerly a three-year assistant at the University of San Francisco, specialized in guiding the Dons’ goalkeepers and USF’s overall academic success.

"I am very excited to welcome Mike to our team," Nagamine said in a UH release. "He is a young, up-and-coming coach with high energy and a positive disposition that our players will thrive off of. He has great recruiting connections across the country and has the experience of laying a solid foundation … for the past three years. He is exactly what we need for our program as we try to build our team into a conference contender."

Herman said: "Michele’s plan for the future and passion for the sport of soccer is infectious and will have an immediate impact on the program. I have no doubt that as a staff we can help this program return to the prominence it once enjoyed."

Kathy Carey, an assistant under former UH coach Pinsoom Tenzing, will stay on at UH as a volunteer assistant.
