Alyssa Aipa’s two-run single highlighted a five-run second inning and Hawaii Pacific rolled to a 12-0 victory in five innings over Chaminade in yesterday’s first game of a nonconference softball doubleheader at Okita Field.

The Sea Warriors (8-2) completed the twin bill sweep of the Silverswords (3-5) with a 6-0 win in the second game. HPU broke open the contest with a three-run third, helped by three Chaminade errors.

In the run-rule shortened opener, Maile Kim belted a three-run homer to left that helped HPU to an 11-0 lead in the third. Breanne Patton and Ashley Valine combined on a five-hitter.

Weekly honors to Perriton, Patton

Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Brooke Perriton was named the Pacific West Conference player of the week and Hawaii Pacific’s Breanne Patton the pitcher of the week yesterday.

Perriton, a senior second baseman out of Maryknoll, led the conference in hitting for the week at .750. She went 3-for-4 with a double as the Seasiders lost twice to the Sea Warriors.

Patton, a junior right-hander out of Campbell, tossed a complete-game 4-0 shutout of BYUH, striking out four while walking two and giving up four hits. It was the second weekly honor for Patton in three weeks.

Vulcans sweep baseball weekly honors

Hawaii-Hilo’s Keoni Manago was named the PacWest player of the week and teammate Kekoa Lee the pitcher of the week as the Vulcans opened the season 3-2.

Manago, a senior outfielder out of Roosevelt, hit .500 in five games, going 11-for-22 with six runs, two doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

Lee, a senior left-hander out of Moanalua, struck out eight in giving up three runs over five innings as the Vulcans routed Patten 22-5 in their season opener. An outfielder when not pitching, Lee also got it done at the plate with a homer, five RBIs and six runs scored.

Hot-shooting Dastrup cited

Brigham Young-Hawaii junior guard Jake Dastrup was named the PacWest men’s basketball player of the week yesterday after helping the Seasiders go 3-0 on the road last week.

He averaged a conference-best 22.7 points, including 54 points, and went 18-for-27 on 3-point attempts. It is his second weekly honor.
