Honolulu police shut down Paki Avenue near Kapiolani Park in both directions at 9:32 a.m. as crews work to clear a downed tree between Monsarrat Avenue and Noela Street.

City park crews are working to remove the kiawe tree, which fell in Kapiolani Park.

Paki Avenue was closed in both directions and is expected to reopen about 6 this afternoon. Traffic is being rerouted to Leahi Avenue between Monsarrat Avenue and Noela Street.

The work crews are from the Department of Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forestry Division.

It was the second time this week that a tree has fallen in the area.

On Saturday, a car was damaged when it was struck by a tree on Monsarrat Avenue.
