UHH sweeps Dominican in softball

Kanani Numata, Bryanna Hardy and Nicole Alconcel all had two hits to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 4-3 victory over Dominican in the first game of a softball doubleheader yesterday at San Rafael, Calif.

Amber Waracka tossed an eight-hitter for UHH (13-8, 10-2 Pacific West).

The Vulcans beat the Penguins 8-3 in the second game on Christina Pedroza’s four-hitter.

Dominican dropped to 1-18 and 0-8.

Abe and Hearn win Assistants 4-Ball

Shane Abe and John Hearn teamed up for a two-round total of 14-under 128 to win the Aloha PGAAssistants Four-Ball Championship yesterday at Honolulu Country Club.

Abe and Hearn followed up their 63 on Monday with a 65 yesterday.

John Lynch and Shawn McCauley finished second, seven shots back.

UH hoops banquet April 21

The Hawaii men’s basketball team’s postseason banquet will be held April 21 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom.

No host cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to follow at 6:30.

Tickets are $100 each. For best seating, turn in the RSVP form available at at www.hawaiiathletics.com by April 15.

UH, which enjoyed its first winning season in four years at 19-13, was led by first-year coach Gib Arnold.
