Dwight Toyama, longtime executive director of the Oahu Interscholastic Association, has stepped down, according to several people familiar with the situation.
Toyama headed the public school league for more than a decade and served as a head of the Hawaii High School Athletic Association.
He was said to have announced the move to a group of athletic directors yesterday and also sent out letters to some friends and colleagues.
Neither Toyama nor his interim replacement, Raymond Fujino, was immediately available for comment.
Fujino has been with the DOE’s Civil Rights Compliance office. The outgoing voicemail message at his former office said he had been reassigned to another position.
Toyama, 58, took time off earlier in the academic year for a health issue.
His departure is said to have been effective last Friday.
Fujino is a former athletic director at Kaimuki, his alma mater, and also coached the Bulldogs to a state boys basketball championship in 1993.
