Konawaena stars head Team Aloha
Konawaena junior Lia Galdeira, the Star-Advertiser’s All-State Player of the Year, and teammate Dawnyelle Awa, head the Team Aloha girls basketball squad that will participate in the Tournament of Champions event April 16-17 at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif.
Others on the all-underclassmen team are ‘Iolani’s Kylie Maeda, Alex Masaquel and Jade Botelho, Punahou’s Mysha Sataraka, Kaimuki’s Dejah Faasoa, Kauai’s Kristle Henry, Leilehua’s Carissa McBride, Kapolei’s Toe Motu and Kamehameha’s Alohi Robins-Hardy.
Former Aiea girls coach and University of Hawaii point guard Fran Villarmia-Kahawai will coach the team for the second year. Former Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann will assist.
"The purpose of Team Aloha’s participation in these tournaments has been to give our local girls an opportunity to demonstrate their talents to college coaches and scouts," Hannemann said in a statement. "We’ve chosen underclassmen for these NCAA-sanctioned events in order to maximize the girls’ exposure during the recruitment process."
