3 Warriors are MPSF All-Academic
University of Hawaii volleyball players Jonas Umlauft, Nejc Zemljak and Sam Biscaro were selected to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team, announced by the league office.
The criteria include a 3.0 grade-point average or better, at least a sophomore standing academically, having completed one full academic year and must have played in 50 percent or more of the team’s matches.
Umlauft, a sophomore, led the nation with 5.57 kills per set and was named a first-team AVCA All-American.
Zemljak, a senior, is a four-time all-academic selection. He averaged 11.04 assists per set, which ranked seventh nationally, and was named second-team All-MPSF.
Biscaro, a redshirt freshman, appeared in all 28 matches for the Warriors as a back-up setter and serving specialist.

U.S. Open qualifying to hold court
The U.S. Open Hawaii Pacific Section Qualifying Tournament will be held today through Sunday at the Diamond Head Tennis Center and Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.
Nine men, six women and three mixed doubles teams will compete in the tournament.
Today’s competition will feature two women’s singles matches at 2 p.m. and one men’s match at 4 p.m. at Diamond Head.
On Saturday and Sunday, the tournament will move to CORP. Matches start at 9 a.m. on both days.
The winners will advance to the U.S. Open National Playoffs for an opportunity to earn a wild-card entry into the U.S. Open Qualifying Tournament, Aug. 23-26 at Flushing, N.Y.
