Firefighters rescue hiker in Kalihi Valley

Honolulu firefighters rescued a man who needed help crossing a stream on a trail off  the Likelike Highway Thursday night.

Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the 21-year-old man was hiking with three friends on a trail leading to a swimming hole in Kalihi Valley known as “ice pond.”
 
He had trouble crossing a stream and firefighters guided him across using ropes.

The 21-year-old man was hiking with three friends, but apparently couldn’t cross over a stream and firefighters had to guide him across with ropes.

Police closed a Kaneohe-bound lane of Likelike Highway past the Burmeister Overpass at about 9 p.m., while rescue trucks were parked along the roadway.
