Honolulu Community Action Program gets grant to build community center
The Honolulu Community Action Program is being awarded more than $1 million to build a community center in Waianae.
The new building will have meeting rooms, a computer training laboratory, and an after-school program for science, math and technology studies among other facilities.
The Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation is due to present the organization a grant check for $1.3 million for the project on today.
The building is due to be finished in December. It’s also expected to house the organization’s programs for low-income families, including Head Start and its emergency food and utility assistance services.
Honolulu Community Action Program is a private, nonprofit organization that has been serving Oahu’s needy since 1965.
