HPD’s newest class of officers include kickboxer and pageant contestant

Twenty-four new officers of the Honolulu Police Department will be sworn in tonight at a Waipio ceremony.

Members of the graduating class, who have completed a six-month course, include a professional kickboxer, a former U.S. Marine, two high school coaches, and a Miss Hawaii beauty pageant contestant.

The graduation ceremony for HPD’s 168th recruit class is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Hawaii Okinawa Center at 94-587 Ukee St.

Police Chief Louis M. Kealoha will present awards for highest firearms score, best athletic ability, class scholar, most inspirational, and outstanding recruit.

The 24 recruits’ first assignments will be in the Chinatown and Waikiki areas.
