A 40-year-old Kapolei man remained in police custody awaiting charges Thursday night after allegedly threatening his 37-year-old wife with a knife.

The couple was arguing about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when the man went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife with an 8-inch blade and stood over his wife in a threatening manner, causing her to fear for her life, police said.

When the man walked back to the kitchen, the woman tried to flee, but the man grabbed her from behind and allegedly held her down on the sofa, police said. The woman pleaded for him to let her go, and he released her after realizing his 10-year-old daughter was watching.

The woman called police. Officers arrested the man at 10:30 p.m. when he returned home, detaining him for investigation of terroristic threatening, abuse, second-degree assault and kidnapping.
