Maui police employee charged with impersonating an officer
A Maui Police Department employee was charged Tuesday with impersonating a law enforcement officer and other offenses connected to a traffic incident in May 2010.
Besides the impersonation charge, Charles B. Barrett, 49, was also charged with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, harassment and reckless driving. He turned himself in at the Wailuku Police Station on Tuesday and was released, pending a court date of Feb. 6.
Maui police said the charges stem from an incident between Barrett and a motorist on May 5, 2010.
Barrett has been an information systems analysis employee for MPD since May 28, 2001.
