Tourist who drowned off Heeia Kea pier identified

The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the Japanese tourist who drowned while snorkeling off Heeia Kea pier Tuesday as 67-year-old Ichiro Kawashima.

Kawashima, who was from Tochigi, drowned after diving off a tour boat in waters off Heeia Kea Pier. Paramedics and fire rescue personnel met the boat at the pier about 11:13 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. 

The Medical Examiner’s Office classified his death as accidental.
