Bennett named WAC hitter of the week

Hawaii senior Collin Bennett was named the Westerh Athletic Conference hitter of the week on Monday, becoming the first Rainbow to win the award this season.

Bennett hit .667 (8-for-12) with a double, triple, four runs and six RBIs against Saint Mary’s to raise his average 40 points to a team-leading .328 for the season.

He tied a career high with four RBIs in a 7-5 win over the Gaels on Saturday and hit a game-tying two-run single in the bottom of the seventh in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday to force extra innings.

Bennett leads the Rainbows in slugging (.405), on-base percentage (.439) and RBIs (22) and is tied for second on the team with 18 runs scored.

The Rainbows (21-15, 2-1) hit the road for seven games, beginning with a series on Friday at WAC-leadng San Jose State.
