Motorcycle crash injures 2 on Moanalua Freeway
An 18-year-old woman was in critical condition Sunday morning after the motorcycle she was riding on crashed into a car on Moanalua Freeway, prompting police to shut down all lanes of the freeway in the Waianae-bound direction.
Police said a 19-year-old man driving the motorcycle in the Waianae-bound lanes rear-ended a Honda Civic about 4:05 a.m. Sunday roughly 400 feet before the Ala Aolani Street overpass. Both riders of the motorcycle were wearing helmets and were thrown onto the freeway.
The man had multiple injuries and went to the Queen’s Medical Center in good condition. The woman went to Queen’s in an unknown condition with abrasions to her right arm, but her condition later worsened to critical, police said.
An 18-year-old man driving the car and his 18-year-old female passenger were not hurt.
Officers closed all four lanes of Moanalua Freeway in the Waianae direction because of debris from the crash scattered across the roadway.
The freeway reopened about 5:20 a.m.
