Shotgun-armed sailor gives up in standoff

A 22-year-old Pearl Harbor sailor armed with a shotgun surrendered to police at about 12:45 p.m. Thursday, ending a barricade situation at his home in Moana­lua Terrace Navy Housing.

The Navy petty officer arrived home just before noon and allegedly threatened the people there — his wife and at least two other women and two to three babies, Hono­lulu police Maj. William Chur said.

The man’s wife remained inside while the other women picked up the children and ran out, Chur said.

About 15 officers arrived at the Rood Court duplex. Police evacuated a couple of nearby homes "in the line of fire" and cordoned off the area, Chur said. They also shut down nearby Radford Drive.

The man and his wife walked out, and the man surrendered. He was arrested on suspicion of four counts of terroristic threatening and two counts of firearms offenses.

"I was terrified," neighbor La Mocha Stone, 23, said. "Police with guns and wearing bulletproof vests ran through the backyard of my house. People behind us had to evacuate. (Police) said, ‘Get down. Get down!’"

Officer assaulted while breaking up fight

Two men are in custody after police were called to Kahuku on Wednesday afternoon to break up a fight.

A 28-year-old Hauula man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer who was trying to break up the fight. The suspect was treated for minor injuries at a hospital. He also faces a charge of disorderly conduct.

Also arrested was a 22-year-old Hale­iwa man who was challenged by a 17-year-old youth to a fight. Police said the older man responded by drawing "a dangerous instrument," threatening his challenger. However, the 22-year-old fled and was located a few blocks away and arrested.
