No tsunami expected after another strong quake off Canada

A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck off Canada today in the same area of Saturday night’s much-larger quake which set off a small tsunami for the Hawaiian islands.

This morning’s quake did not generate a tsunami, according to the West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska.

The earthquake struck just before noon at the epicenter (8:54 a.m. Hawaii time) and was centered 98 miles south-southwest of Masset, Canada, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Thousands of people in Hawaii were forced to evacuate inundation zones last night after a 7.7 earthquake sent a tsunami toward Hawaii. Small tsunami waves were recorded across Hawaii but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. There have been dozens of aftershocks in the area since Saturday’s quake.
