A Maui man was critically injured and two women hurt in a one-car crash Wednesday night in Paia, police said.

A 1999 Pontiac Sunfire was traveling west on Baldwin Avenue about 9 p.m. when it veered onto one roadway shoulder and then the other, hit a rock wall and rolled down an embankment to Rainbow Park, where it overturned and hit two trees, police said.

A 20-year-old Pukalani man who was sitting in the back seat was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical conditions with head injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt, police said.

A 20-year-old woman in the front passenger seat was flown to a Honolulu hospital. Her condition was not disclosed. The driver, a 20-year-old woman, was treated at the Maui hospital and released. Both women were using seat belts.
