Magnitude-6.4 quake shakes Philippines

MANILA, Philippines >> A magnitude-6.4 earthquake rattled the Philippine island of Mindanao early Saturday morning (8:17 a.m. Hawaii time), the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the temblor, which hit at 2:17 a.m. local time.

The USGS said the quake hit some 52 miles northeast of Butuan on Mindanao, and 517 miles southeast of Manila, the capital.

The quake was some 39 miles below the surface, the USGS said.
