Lahainaluna, ‘Iolani advance to Division II championship game
Lahainaluna and ‘Iolani won their semifinal games in the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Division II State Football Championship tonight to set up a meeting for the title next Friday.
Lahainaluna scored two defensive touchdowns and posted its seventh shutout of the season in a 28-0 win over Nanakuli in the first game of the semifinal doubleheader at Aloha Stadium. Lahainaluna linebacker Tytus Lucas intercepted two passes, returning the first 34 yards for a touchdown.
In the second game, ‘Iolani quarterback Reece Foy threw four touchdown passes in the first half and the Raiders rolled to a 43-0 win over Radford. Foy completed 13 of 17 passes for 215 yards.
The Raiders and Lunas meet at 4 p.m. Friday for the Division II championship. ‘Iolani has won the last five titles and six of the last seven. The Raiders’ streak began with a win over Lahainaluna in the 2007 D-II final.
