A man who stopped police from apprehending a woman suspected of shoplifting was himself arrested Thursday night in the Ward area.

Police said that a woman in her 30s was seen exiting a retail establishment on Kamakee Street with unpaid merchandise about 5:45 p.m. A man, 39, intervened and used force to prevent officers from arresting the woman, police said.

The man, of Ewa Beach, is being held pending a charge of second-degree robbery. The female suspect has not been located, police said.
