UH softball team upsets No. 7 Oregon
The University of Hawaii softball team rallied from a four-run deficit to upset Oregon 6-5 today in the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
UH senior Kaia Parnaby gave up four runs in the top of the first inning but held the Ducks scoreless into the seventh and Rainbow Wahine, ranked 20th and 23rd in the national polls, powered past No. 7/9 Oregon.
After Oregon went up 4-0 in the first inning on a two-run homer by Kaylan Howard and a two-run double by Alexa Peterson.
UH responded with a three-run second inning highlighted by Kelly Majam’s two-run homer.
UH tied the game in the third when Leisha Li’ili’i doubled to left field to score Jessica Iwata.
Iwata scored on an Oregon error in the fifth to give UH the lead and Jazmine Zamora’s RBI single gave the Wahine a 6-4 edge.

Oregon came within a run on an error with one out in the seventh, but Zamora, UH’s third baseman, caught a line drive and doubled the runner off second to end the game and give Parnaby the complete-game win.
UH closes the tournament with a doubleheader Sunday against Utah Valley and Nevada.
