Lunalilo Street partially closed after electrical repair crews puncture water main

Board of Water Supply crews started work to replace a service main fronting 1074 Lunalilo Street once HECO crews left the area.

Separate accidents that knocked down utility poles closed Lunalilo Street and Kunia Road Monday night. Hawaiian Electric Co. crews completed repairs on both roads this morning, though accidentally puntured a water main on Lunalilo Street, leaving some residents without water.

The original Lunalilo Street accident happened at about 8:36 p.m. near Ernest Street, police said. A Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman said the repairs were expected to be completed by 8 a.m.

Police closed Lunalilo Street between Penasacola Street and Ward Avenue and the Lunalilo Street onramp to the H-1 Freeway, but were able to reopen the onramp by 10:30 p.m.

There were no reports of serious injuries.

Hawaiian Electric crews completed work on Lunalilo Street, restoring power to about 20 customers by 7:00 a.m., but not before accidentally puncturing a 2 1/2-inch water main.

The right lane of Lunalilo Street, between Pensacola and Ernest streets, will be closed as crews repair the damaged main. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternate travel routes. Repairs are expected to be completed by noon.

Seven homes will be without water.

Another accident involving a car and utility pole happened at about 11:22 p.m.

Police initially closed Kunia Road in both directions between Anonui Street to the Hawaii Country Club, Crews completed repairs by 6:30 a.m. after reopening the road about an hour earlier.

No serious injuries were immediately reported.

One customer was without electricity.
