Light east winds are beginning to blow the vog away and clear the skies just before sunset Saturday.

The winds and the weather are changing starting today. National Weather Service forecasters say a cold front is moving over the islands and winds will shift to the south on Kauai and Oahu starting this afternoon. There’s also an increased chance of showers through Friday.

The forecast for Honolulu calls for mostly sunny skies this morning. Kona winds will start blowing from the south in the late morning or early afternoon, leading to the chance of afternoon and evening showers.

There’s an 80 percent chance of rain Thursday and Friday as the front moves over Oahu.

The front should move past Oahu by the weekend, but could stall over Maui and Hawaii island.

Honolulu could see voggy skies Saturday when trade winds are light. But the northeast winds should strengthen and blow most of the vog south of Oahu on Sunday, forecasters say..

Forecasters are also expecting a bump in surf for north shores, with advisory level wave faces of 5 to 8 feet by Wednesday afternoon through Friday.

South shores may also see a small swell from a storm last week near New Zealand. Waves of 2 to 4 feet are expected today.
