ATLANTA » NCAA President Mark Emmert is defending his record amid complaints about the way the organization has investigated wayward schools, as well as a newspaper report that questioned his leadership in previous jobs.

Emmert held a 45-minute news conference today during the Final Four that turned contentious at times. In fact, he fired a parting shot at a reporter: “I know you’re disappointed, but I’m still here.”

In particular, the NCAA has come under fire for violating its own policies while investigating the scandal involving a Miami booster. Emmert says the NCAA acknowledged its mistakes and made the necessary changes.

In addition, Emmert dismissed a USA Today story that accuses him of shirking responsibility for problems at Connecticut, LSU and Montana State under his watch.
