Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ featured in Atlanta exhibit
ATLANTA » Visitors to Atlanta’s High Museum of Art will soon have a chance to experience the engaging over-the-shoulder glance of Johannes Vermeer’s famous "Girl with a Pearl Earring."
The 17th-century masterpiece is part of an exhibition of works from the Dutch Golden Age opening today. The show runs through Sept. 29.
"Girl with a Pearl Earring" is one of only about three dozen paintings that can definitively be attributed to Vermeer. It last visited the U.S. in 1996. The painting was also the subject of a movie and best-selling book.
The exhibition had its U.S. premiere at the de Young Fine Arts Museum in San Francisco earlier this year, and a condensed version will be on view at The Frick Collection in New York from Oct. 22 through Jan. 19.
