A 23-year-old Maui man was killed Sunday night when he lost control of an SUV and was thrown from the vehicle in Waiehu.

Killed in the 11:49 p.m. accident was Zachery T. McGuire. 

Also injured was a 28 -year-old front-seat passenger from Wailuku who suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center Room where he was treated and released.

Speed, alcohol and drugs appear to factors in the crash, police said.

Police said McGuire was driving a 1995 Toyota 4 Runner west on Limu Ele Ele Street and tried to make a left turn onto Omilu Place. The driver failed to make the turn and his vehicle overturned, coming to rest on the driver’s side on the southwest corner of the intersection.
