Hawaii's Emily Hartong hits past UC Riverside's Nae Bender in the first set of the UC Riverside vs Hawaii women's volleyball match at Stan Sheriff Center.

Senior All-American hitter Emily Hartong put down 12 kills and No. 6 Hawaii added a season-high seven aces when sweeping UC Riverside, 25-7, 25-13, 25-15 in today’s Big West volleyball match at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Wahine (13-1, 2-0 BWC) needed just 76 minutes to extend their winning streak to 11 and defeat the Highlanders (1-12, 0-1) for the 14th time in as many meetings.

All 15 of Hawaii’s available roster players got into the match, with senior hitter Kaela Goodman having a career night blocking. She had three solo blocks and six total blocks, both one above her previous highs.

Hawaii out-blocked UCR 10-1 and finished with a 43-29 edge in digs. Senior libero Ali Longo finished with 11 digs and senior hitter Ashley Kastl added 10.

Sophomore hitter Ashley Cox led the Highlanders with nine kills.

Hawaii had just five hitting errors, four by Hartong, the fifth by Kalei Adolpho. Freshman hitter Nikki Taylor had six kills with no errors in seven swings, hitting .857 in two sets. Kastl, starting in place of sophomore hitter Tai Manu-Olevao — who sat out the Sunday match because of religious beliefs — also had six kills with no errors in 19 attempts.

Sophomore hitter Ashley Cox led the Highlanders with nine kills.

The Wahine travel for Big West matches Friday at Long Beach State and Saturday at UC Irvine. They are next at home Oct. 11 against UC Santa Barbara and Oct. 12 against Cal Poly.
