  • responsibility and forgiveness transform the powerful deity into a god of peace.

A five-year partnership between Starwood Hotels & Resorts Hawaii and Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts LP  will pump $500,000 into the Hokulea’s around-the-world expedition.

The doubled-hulled Polynesian voyaging canoe is preparing for next year’s global journey to promote preservation of native cultures, earth sustainability and education of Hawaii culture.

“We wanted to lead the effort on behalf of the hospitality industry to support this culturally significant initiative. Tourism is strengthened through education and appreciation of local culture. The Hokulea journey represents this for us and the entire tourism industry. We hope other hotel groups will join us in this effort,” said Ernie Nishizaki, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Kyo-ya Hotels & Resorts.

The gift consists of a $250,000 cash contribution and another $250,000 contribution through in-kind support and individual fundraising efforts.
