Wahine basketball team bounces back with win

Kamilah Jackson had a clutch three-point play among her 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists as the Hawaii basketball team defeated Tennessee-Chattanooga 60-55 on the second day of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Showdown Saturday.

Kamilah Jackson put together her fifth straight double-double, but it was her basket and free throw on a pass from Shawna Kuehu that won the game for the Wahine (4-3) for a five-point lead with 22.7 seconds left.

Ashleigh Karaitiana contributed a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and Destiny King added 11 points and three assists. Kuehu went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line and added eight points, five boards and three assists.

UH enjoyed big leads to start each half but the UTC Mocs (4-3) rallied both times. The Wahine led 26-11 but allowed a 15-0 UTC run going into halftime.

UH’s 12-0 run had the Wahine up 45-36. A fullcourt pass from King to Jackson made it 49-39 UH with 7:48 to play, but the Mocs rallied to within 57-55 with 1:33 left.

UH faces Minnesota today at 5 p.m. to complete the tournament.
