Traffic is being diverted around a sinkhole near a road project in Mililani.
A contractor working on a road project discovered the sinkhole on Makohilani Street between Keehuhiwa and Hokuliilii streets late Thursday afternoon, the city said in a news release.
The 8-foot by 8-foot hole has been covered with steel plates. The city said access to homes is not affected.
City inspectors will work with the contractor today to determine the extent of the sinkhole and repair it.
