The large swell that generated waves as high as 40-feet across the state, has lowered, but is still at high surf advisory levels and a new swell may push the wave heights back to dangerous warning levels Sunday.

The National Weather Service canceled a high surf warning today, but an advisory remains in effect for north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and the north-facing shores of Maui until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Waves on the north shores are expected to be 18 to 24 feet today. Waves are expected to be 12 to 18 feet on the west-facing shores of Oahu and Molokai, according to the National Weather Service.

The surf will continue to decline tonight, but another swell coming in from the northwest is expected to generate another high surf warning Sunday and Monday.

Swimmers are advised to exercise caution at beaches because of strong breaking waves, shore break and currents.
