JAL flight to Bay Area makes 1,200-mile detour to Honolulu

A Japan Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Honolulu Airport on Saturday afternoon.

Hawaii News Now, citing a CNBC report, said the pilot declared an emergency over a hydraulic issue.

Officials say the Japan Air Lines Flight 2, which left Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, was originally bound for San Francisco.

The Boeing 787 diverted to Honolulu when it was about 1,200 miles north-northeast of the isles, according to the website flightaware.com. The plane landed at Honolulu Airport around 1:28 p.m. after just over eight hours in the air.

There were reportedly 171 people onboard, including staff. Officials say the passengers left the plane safely.
