Food blogger brings beer brewers to account

Following her victory against Subway, in which she got the nationwide sandwich chain to stop using a suspicious bread ingredient, food blogger Vani Hari must really be drunk with power now, after succeeding in getting two of America’s largest beer makers to post online the ingredients in their beers.

Hari started an online petition last week that garnered tens of thousands of signatures in just a few days, prompting Anheuser-Busch and MillerCoors to start revealing what’s in their most popular brands.

In case you care, you’ll be happy to know that they are made from all natural ingredients — in the case of Budweiser and Bud Light: water, barley malt, rice, yeast and hops; in the case of Miller Lite, Coors Light and six other MillerCoors brands: water, barley malt, corn, yeast and hops.

Do you suppose Hari is having a cool, tall one to celebrate?

Would you like some jet fuel with your water?

Was the Navy’s jet fuel tank in Red Hill leaking or not? Turns out, after some initial confusion, the Navy has confirmed that it was. So now it needs to do something about it, especially since the facility is so close to water wells that supply about a quarter of urban Honolulu’s drinking water.

State Deputy Health Director Gary Gill is right to urge that if the Red Hill storage tanks are going to remain in operation, they need to be retrofitted with the latest leak prevention and detection systems.
