Manuel was up against fellow Hawaii surfer Alessa Quizon of Makaha in the finals and competed against Sage Erickson in the semifinals.

OCEANSIDE, Calif. >> Defending champion Malia Manuel of Kauai, Hawaii, tops the field announced for the ASP 6-Star Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro Aug. 8-10, the world’s largest women’s surfing contest.

Also expected to compete in the field of more than 100 at the Oceanside Pier are last year’s runner-up, Paige Hareb of New Zealand, and Bethany Hamilton of Lihue, Hawaii, who lost her left arm in a shark attack in 2003.

The Supergirl Pro will serve as the lone women’s ASP qualifying event scheduled in the United States for the 2014 season and plays a major role for surfers looking to solidify their position on the 2015 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour.

The contest is produced by ASA Entertainment.
