Police chase of theft suspect nets 2 arrests

While chasing a 33-year-old theft suspect in Waikiki on Sunday, police encountered a 22-year-old homeless man who ran from officers for no apparent reason and then entered a hotel room without permission, police said..

The younger man allegedly assaulted the occupant who had confronted him.

Damien Cabral was arrested at 415 Nahua St. on suspicion of first-degree burglary, drug and drug paraphernalia offenses and revocation of probation. Cabral was charged Monday night with second-degree unauthorized entry into a dwelling. Bail was set at $25,000, which includes $20,000 for probation revocation.

Police arrested the theft suspect on second-degree theft, but later released him pending investigation.
