Prison visits canceled on Oahu, Big Island
Visitation at the Women’s Community Correctional Center was canceled Sunday due to staffing shortages.
On Saturday the state Department of Public Safety canceled regularly scheduled visitation at Kulani Correctional Facility and the Punahele and Komohana units of the Hale Nani Correctional Facility due to ongoing staffing shortages. Both are on Hawaii island.
Staffing issues have led to the cancellation of visitation at a Hawaii correctional facility 39 times over the last six months.
The department posts visitation cancellation notices through social media to inform people who are planning to come to the facility. Posts are made between 6:30 and 7:30 a.m. on the scheduled visitation day.

Diving outing kills Oahu man
A 42-year-old Honolulu man died Saturday after running into trouble while diving off Lanai, Maui County officials said.
He was identified Sunday as Frank Pablo.
Police said Pablo was diving with a friend in the bay at the end of Lapaiki Trail just after 10 p.m. when the friend found him floating unconscious in the water. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed on shore.
Pablo was taken up the trail toward responding rescue crews, who transported him to a hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts at the hospital, he died. An autopsy will be conducted.
Wave damage being repaired
Construction has begun to repair the last of the damage from the March 2011 tsunami at the Keauhou Small Boat Harbor on Hawaii island.
Construction on the $428,000 project is scheduled through Jan. 7, the Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports.
In the initial phase, Drayko Construction Inc. will remove existing asphalt and install concrete pavement and drainage features on the mauka side of the boat launch ramp and wash-down area.
Starting in October, repairs will be made to the rock revetment, loading dock, fenders and cleats on the left side of the boat ramp. Crews will also remove asphalt and install concrete pavement fronting the left side of the boat ramp.
In November crews will replace and stripe the asphalt in the mauka parking lot. Finally, crews will install concrete paving fronting the right side of the boat ramp.
Certain sections of the harbor will be closed during the project.
