Hawaii downs Cal Poly in volleyball
Sophomore hitter Nikki Taylor finished with program’s first triple-double in the rally scoring era, and senior middle Kalei Adolpho and freshman Kalei Greeley each put down 11 kills as Hawaii pulled away from Cal Poly 21-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-16 Saturday in a Big West volleyball match in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Taylor had 10 kills, 10 digs and was in on 11 of the Rainbow Wahine’s 19.5 blocks. Adolpho was in on 11 blocks for her first double-double of the season and junior middle Olivia Magill added 10 kills with just one error when hitting .429.
Hawaii (19-6, 11-3) can finish no higher than second place in the conference, ending a streak of 19 consecutive championships dating back to a second-place finish in 1994. Long Beach State (24-4, 14-0) clinched its 13th Big West title Saturday night with a sweep of UC Riverside.
Taylor Gruenewald led the Mustangs (9-16, 4-11) with 16 kills and Raeann Greisen added 15.
Hawaii finishes the regular season at home against UC Riverside Friday and UC Davis Saturday.
