UH punter Harding named to Mountain West first team
University of Hawaii football player Scott Harding was named to the Mountain West Conference’s first team as a punter on Wednesday.
Of his nation-leading 86 punts, only 18 were returned for an average of 1.6 yards per attempt. Five punts resulted in turnovers. Thirty-four of Harding’s punts were downed inside the 20.
Harding, 28, joined the Warriors as a receiver in July 2011 after finishing a six-year career as a professional Australian rules football player. When punter Alex Dunnachie was suspended for the first three games of 2012, Harding was summoned as a punter. He can punt with either foot off rollouts to either side.
Harding also received honorable mention as a punt returner. He averaged 8.8 yards per return.
Center Kody Afusia, left tackle Ben Clarke, kicker Tyler Hadden, right tackle Sean Shigematsu, safety Taz Stevenson and defensive end Beau Yap were named honorable mention.
