No tsunami threat from strong earthquake in Chile
A strong earthquake, initially estimated at magnitude 6.9, struck northern Chile Wednesday morning.
The earthquake struck at about 8:57 a.m. Hawaii time, 3:57 p.m. Chile time, about 67 miles east-southeast of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, 127 miles west of Humahuaca, Argentina, and about 465 miles south of La Paz, Bolivia at a depth of about 167 miles.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, based on historical data, there is no danger of a Pacific-wide tsunami.
There were no initial reports of major damage or injuries.
