No tsunami threat after moderate earthquake strikes Tonga

    A magnitude-5.8 earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Hihifo, Tonga Monday afternoon. No tsunami threat to Hawaii reported.

A moderate earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Hihifo, Tonga Monday afternoon.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii. 

The U.S. Geological Survey stated that the magnitude-5.8 earthquake struck 62 miles northeast of Hihifo, Tonga and 135 miles southwest of Apia, Samoa at 2:46 p.m. Hawaii time.

No injuries have been reported at this time.
