Vog, muggy weather with scattered showers to continue
The vog, humidity and the possibility of scattered heavy rain are likely to continue through the weekend as a weather system approaches the state from the northwest.
Kona winds bringing vog and humidity from the south remain in the forecast until the front passes this weekend.
Meanwhile, a south and wind swell is bringing 6- to 8-foot surf to south and east shores. A high surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.
Forecasters expect afternoon rain clouds to form over southeast slopes because of the Kona winds and onshore breezes. Rains may also linger over windward areas.
Heavy rains Wednesday dropped more than 8.4 inches over the 24-hour period ending at 8 a.m. in the Punaluu Stream area, causing localized flooding. Poamoho recorded 4.5 inches and the Oahu Forest National Wildlife Reserve got nearly 3.6 inches. Waikoloa, on the Big Island, saw more than 4 inches of rain.
The weakening weather system is expected to move slowly down the island chain Saturday and Sunday, bringing more widespread clouds and showers.

Tradewinds should return by Monday, blowing away the vog from western islands. But moisture from the front is likely to linger, fueling tradewind showers in windward and mauka areas.
