Wong, Cardinals blank Dodgers

ST. LOUIS » The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 on Friday night in the first of three games between the two teams.

St. Louis got off to a quick 1-0 start in the first after Los Angeles pitcher Mike Bolsinger (3-1) loaded the bases and Randal Grichuk grounded into a double play to bringKolten Wong home.

The Cardinals scored again in the third, thanks to Grichuk’s RBI double that led Jhonny Peralta home. Peralta finished the night with two doubles and a seventh-inning RBI.

Cardinals starter John Lackey struck out nine on his way to his third win of the season. Kevin Siegrist came in for relief in the eighth, and closer Trevor Rosenthal collected the ninth-inning save.

Ed Easley, who was called up to St. Louis after first baseman Matt Adams’ injury, reached based in the seventh on an error, and Jon Jay, who was returning from his rehab assignment with High-A Peoria, recorded a single in the eighth.
