Maui police identified a 51-year-old man found unresponsive in the water near Black Rock in Kaanapali Monday afternoon.

Police said that bystanders pulled Mitchell Feinstein, 51, from Roslyn, New York, from the water about 15 to 20 yards from shore at about 2:45 p.m.

Bystanders began CPR until police, medics and fire rescue personnel arrived on scene.

Despite the efforts, Feinstein was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
