The 49-year-old homeless man charged with hitting a 21-year-old Honolulu Community College student on the back of the head made his initial appearance in District Court this morning.

Khammouane Thong was charged with third-degree assault and served with outstanding bench warrants when he was arrested Tuesday morning on Dillingham Boulevard, a day after he alleged attacked a female student who was on her way to class. Bail for all three offenses was set at $1,350.

The female student identified her attacker, a Honolulu Community College official said.

The student said she was attacked near a bus stop on Dillingham Boulevard in front of the college at 6:40 a.m. Monday.

The student was not injured and attended classes.
