Overnight closures of the town-bound Likelike Highway are slated to begin tonight, so that workers can repair the Wilson Tunnel.

Both town-bound lanes will close 9 p.m. through 4 a.m. Wednesday at the H-3 Freeway split, according to the state’s Department of Transportation. Those overnight closures, aimed at fixing 30 broken stainless steel rods that help hold up the tunnel’s ceiling, are expected to last through Oct. 31.

Workers are further expected to start closing one Kaneohe-bound lane starting Saturday during those same overnight hours for a period of about 10 days. A DOT release say these closures will be for concrete repairs.

The agency also expects to fully close the Kaneohe-bound Likelike Highway starting at Valley View Drive during those overnight hours Nov. 1 and Nov. 2. DOT officials say that at least one town-bound lane will stay open during those nights.

While work happens the speed limit will be 25 mph, instead of the usually 35 mph, according to DOT.
