Expect a wet Thanksgiving as rain clouds move over islands

A band of showers that brought rain to Oahu a few days ago, has moved back and is expected to bring a wet Thanksgiving to the state.

“The showers are concentrated over Oahu, but there’s some showers coming in over all of the islands,” said Pete Donaldson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Honolulu office.

The rainy weather is expected to continue through Friday, with Oahu getting most of the rain today and Kauai getting more rain Friday as the weather system moves west, Donaldson said.

Thanksgiving will also be windy. Strong tradewinds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts to 35 mph are forecast.

The heaviest rain is expected in windward and mauka areas, however the strong trades will blow showers over leeward areas as well.

The forecast for Honolulu and south shores of Oahu calls for breezy weather with frequent to scattered showers today and tonight with highs of 29 to 84 degrees and lows between 67 and 75 degrees.

Sunnier weather should return by Saturday, but there will likely continue to be scattered showers.
